It is identical with ISO 12048:1994. It supersedes BS ISO12048:1994 which is
withdrawn.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by TechnicalCommittee
PKW/1, Packaging generalities, to Subcommittee PKW/1/4, Testmethods, which has
the responsibility to:
Ð aid enquirers to understand the text;
Ð present to the responsible international/European committee anyenquiries
on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UKinterests
informed;
Ð monitor related international and European developments andpromulgate
them in the UK.

Foreword
The text of the International Standard from Technical CommitteeISO/TC 122 "Packaging" of
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has beentaken over as an European
Standard by Technical Committee CEN/TC 261 "Packaging", thesecretariat of which is held
by AFNOR.
This European Standard supersedes EN 22872:1992 and EN22874:1992.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a nationalstandard, either by publication
of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2001,and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2001.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the nationalstandards organizations of
the following countries are bound to implement this EuropeanStandard: Austria, Belgium,
Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland,Ireland, Italy,
Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden,Switzerland and the United
Kingdom.
